Occupations
In 2022, compared to 2021, 6 out of 10 occupational groups had increased employment, while overall employment rose by 3.3%, or 15,500 jobs.
- Occupations in business, finance and administration had the largest job increase with 5,800 jobs. At the same time, natural and applied sciences and related occupations had the largest percentage increase - 10.9%, followed by management occupations - 10.6%.
- Health occupations had the biggest net decrease of 1,800 jobs, followed closely by natural resources, agriculture and related production occupations - 1,700 job and by sales and service occupations - 1,500 jobs.
- The highest percentage decrease was in natural resources, agriculture and related production occupations - 12%.
Overall unemployment rate in 2022 in Nova Scotia was 6.6% which is the lowest unemployment rate for the past 10 years or since 2012.
The highest median hourly wage in 2022 by occupation was in Management - $44.44/h. The lowest median hourly wage was in sales and service occupations - $15.50/h.
The biggest difference between median and average wage in 2022 was $3.19/h for occupations in education, law and social, community and government services (median $29.00/h, average $32.19/h).
